KLAMATH FALLS HISTORY

Klamath Falls Church of the Brethren, OR, located file miles SE of Klamath Falls in Klamath Co. It was organized in Sept. 1948,  as a district mission effort. Edward Lander was the  founding pastor. 1948-56, followed by five pastor in ten years. Membership grew from twelve in 1948 to eighty  in 1955-56. In the first 22 years, Klamath Falls took in 215  members but lost 143. Dissension in the congregation in 1976-77 over the charismatic movement resulted in the lost of  twenty-five percent of the membership, particularly a number of young married couples. By 1980 members numbered ca forty-five, who were involved in a five -year plan to renew the congregation, in 1969-70 there was a yoked relationship with the United Church of Christ. A parsonage/chapel was erected in 1948 and a church building completed by 1952 with much volunteer labor and aid from the district and denomination.  Klamath Falls had been active in a range of outreach ministries.

The above history was taken from The Brethren Encyclopedia Vol. 2 page 669 (1983)

In 1998 the Klamath Falls church closed.
